15 Apr My fun night with a couple of Foxy Blondes
After a rainy trip down the A64 we arrived in Leeds. I parked up at the university (Free Parking) and made my way our way through a dull and overcast Leeds to the Victoria Hotel.
I had a big tea in anticipation of the night’s fun and frolics…
…So I decided to have a light beer instead of my usual dark beer. The Victoria Hotel has an extensive range of real ales which is forever changing. (Plug)
After a couple of refreshing beers we made our way to the Leeds Met for tonight’s entertainment. The Rival Sons + Special guests.
Having seen them a few times before we were expecting a great night out. We were not disappointed.
We got in whilst the second special guests were still doing their set… The Graveltones. – consisting of Jimmy O on vocals and Guitar and Mikey Sorbello on Drums. They were brilliant. Nice and refreshing in a groin crushing sort of way – demonic vocals and thunderous drums great way to start the evening off. I highly recommend checking them out if you can.
After a short intermission peppered by people making their way to the front who were a bit worse for wear with regards drink (rolls eyes). The main event… The Rival Sons.
The RIVAL SONS are pure Rock and Roll!! Formed in 2008, Vocalist Jay Buchanan (who was not on form due to a virus) can belt out a mean mixture of blue, gospel and soul, guitarist Scott Holiday, bassist Robin Everhart and last but not least drummer Michael Miley.
Starting off with “You Want To” before moving quickly onto “Get What’s Coming” you could tell tonight was going to be special. With an encore consisting of a short drum solo (thankfully) then “Burn Down Los Angeles” and finally “Soul” all good thing must come to an end and after nearly two hours of top tunes and plenty of jumping about the main light came up and the Met emptied.
Out into the cold but thankfully rain free night…time for home
Oh by the way… the two Foxy Blondes were the light beers if you were wondering.
